Icelandic wool is unique for its combination
of two distinct layers: a surface layer, made
up of long, silken stands which protect the
sheep from the rain, wind and snow; and an inner
layer which is a fine, soft, close texture,
well insulating and highly resistant to cold.
Together these qualities make Icelandic wool
lighter, warmer an softer than wool found anywhere
else in the world. Its natural oil makes it
water and moth repellent.
Nancy Thomas - a top Canadian designer recognized
in Canada, the U.S., Japan and Europe as one
of the best, has designed each unique, finely
detailed sweater featuring Nature, Canadian
wildlife, Nautical and Seasonal themes. Her
incredible design talents were recognized by
the Ferrari Head Office in Maranello, Italy,
who commissioned her to design and knit sweaters
for their executives, Formula -1 drivers and
crews commemorating their F-1 Championship year.
Be careful to ensure that a garment marked "hand-knit"
is just that. Some are really "hand-knit
" on knitting machines.
The staff of Nancy Thomas Studios, are professional
knitters, located near Niagara Falls, Ontario,
Canada; they lovingly knit each sweater a stitch
at a time by hand on circular needles - no machines
are used! Each Sweater takes between 30 - 40
hours and contains 33,000 to 45,000 stitches.
Their quality workmanship is guaranteed and
they have been making these wonderful sweaters
since 1981.
